I have lived in the Digital Home for almost 20 years and during that time, I have signed up with six internet service providers: Acanac, Bell, Rogers, Primus, Teksavvy and Echo On-line. For those that don't recognize it, Echo On-line was a local dial up provider which offered Internet service long before Bell and Rogers.
My first "always on" connection was through Bell Sympatico which I gave up on after about 4 years due to poor service.

You've probably seen it many times in a movie or tv show. The cops are hunting for the bad guy when they find out the villain has posted something on a social media website. Two minutes later the cops find out the crooks internet address and seconds after the commercial has ended, they are banging down the bad guys door.
So is it possible, can cops, bad guys or even worse, an overzealous marketer, track you down if they know your internet address?

Global personal computer shipments, which includes laptops, desktops and Windows 8 tablets but not Chromebooks or other tablets, totalled 76.6 million units in the first quarter of 2014, a decline of 1.7% from the first quarter of 2013, according to preliminary results by Gartner.
The numbers might have even been worse at it not been for the fact that many firms were buying computers ahead of April 8th, the final day of Windows XP support.
